If You Could Only See

Outside the rain
And me, me in a silent room
Gazing the infinite
What an unwelcoming era, I think
People passing by, with pale faces

Across the street and they get lost
No one knows where they are going or why
People near you are lost
And you just turn your eyes far away
You stare, but do not see
Because if you could only see, it would not have continued to be lost
From up above the 20 floors
It becomes shivers
Because if you could only see
I would not face barefoot children in the streets
If you could only see
Tears of desperation would not flow from their poor eyes
If you could only see
Blood would not flow like water from their lifeless bodies

If you could only see
The clanging of the cannonballs would not be heard
Only laughter of joy would be heard, as children have the right to laugh
I would see happy faces
Because if you could only see
my era would be brighter
Original Version of the poem “If you could only see”
written by Alexandra Zevgiti
